Customers at Booths in Knutsford have helped raise more than £20,000 for local charity The Welcome over the past year, through the store’s “Pennies” charity scheme — the biggest local donation the charity received during the year.
Each year, staff at every Booths store nominate and vote for a charity to support through the scheme. In June last year, The Welcome, Knutsford’s community cafe and support centre, was chosen as the Knutsford store’s nominated Pennies charity. The charity has been publicised in store throughout the year, with customers given the option to donate 25p at the checkout.
Simon Carin, Chair of Trustees at The Welcome, said:
“We were delighted to be nominated, and are grateful to Mark Langstaff, store manager, and all his colleagues for their support. We are especially grateful to their customers, who are given the option to donate 25p when they check out. It’s amazing how these small donations mount up — the £20,208.19 donated over the last year is the biggest local donation we have received. This money has helped us meet growing demand for our services and has had a very positive impact on raising our profile within the Knutsford community.”
Mark Langstaff, Booths Knutsford store manager, said:
“It’s great that we can support local charities through Booths Pennies. The Welcome plays a vital role in supporting the Knutsford community, and I’m really pleased the campaign year has gone so well for them. A big thank you to our customers and staff — without them, none of this would be possible.”
